Algebra 1 Review Answer Keys

Thursday, 12/10/15

Hi All!

Today in Algebra, we reviewed for our quiz tomorrow. We worked on a problem involving fractions in our ordered pairs, to make sure you can complete a problem of that level of difficulty tomorrow on your quiz! We also did a geometry problem involving parallel and perpendicular lines. For homework, complete worksheet titled "Writing Linear Equations in Slope Intercept Form". If you would like extra practice with the geometry problem complete Page 289 #48-50. I will be posting the answers to all of this in a few minutes.

In Pre-Algebra, we finished up our discussion on slopes on a graph by discussing horizontal and vertical lines and their slopes. We drew Mr. Slope Guy and talked about how this drawing may help us with slopes of our lines. We learned how to find slope in a table. For homework, complete worksheet titled "Linearity worksheet #3". You will be having a quiz on Wednesday on all of the ways to find slope.

Updates/Reminders for Week of November 9, 2015

Hi All! Here is an update for both of my classes for this week:

In Algebra, we started working on slope on Friday. We will be having a quiz on Tuesday. Topics on the quiz: putting an equation into function form and then graphing using a table of values, graphing an equation using intercepts, slope between 2 points, and slopes and descriptions of horizontal and vertical lines. We will be reviewing in class tomorrow, Monday, and you will be able to ask me questions on anything necessary before Tuesday's quiz.

Homework Monday Night for Algebra: Finish the 3 review classwork assignments started in class. Answers will be posted on the blog on Monday, around 4 pm. *I WILL REMEMBER THIS TIME :)*

After the quiz on Tuesday if there's time, but if not on Thursday, we will be working on finding the missing coordinate when given the slope. You may not know what that means just yet, but after Thursday you will! We will then be starting to chat about slope-intercept form, y = mx + b, which most of you already know a little bit about!

In Pre-Algebra, we are about to finish our writing equations unit. Our test is scheduled for Tuesday. Tomorrow, Monday, in class, we will be reviewing, and I will be holding a review session with Mr. Costa until 3pm tomorrow if you would like to stay.

Homework Monday Night for Pre-Algebra: Finish the review sheet. The answers will be posted on the blog on Monday around 4pm. Make sure you show all necessary work, or you will not receive credit for doing the review sheet!

After the test on Tuesday, we will not have any time to discuss our next unit. On Thursday, we will be taking a Pre-Test on the unit we will be starting next. Although this pre-test counts as a classwork grade, and graded based on effort, I hope that you all take it seriously and try your hardest to answer the questions. You may not know any answers, or you may be able to answer a few of them already based on your prior knowledge/educational guesses! Let's see how you do!

On Friday, we will be starting the unit with interpreting distance time graphs and relating these graphs to verbal descriptions.

Hope everyone is having a restful Sunday. Go Pats! :)

Answers to Review Sheet ALGEBRA

Hi Guys! Sorry I am a little late (it's 5pm and I am just posting!), but here are the answers to your review sheet for homework tonight.

1.) A function is a relation between a set of inputs and outputs in which every input has exactly one output.

2.) A relation is a set of input and output values that can be graphed in a coordinate plane.

3.) The Vertical Line Test is a method used to distinguish functions from relations. The vertical line test states that if any vertical line drawn on your graph intersects the graph at only one point, your graph represents a function. If any vertical line drawn on your graph intersects the graph and more than one point, your graph represents a relation, but NOT a function.

4.) I can't draw a graph on here, so see me if you need help on this tomorrow before the quiz!

5.) Words: The number of ounces of soda drank depends on the number of cans. For each can of soda, there are 12 ounces drank.
Equation: y = 12x
Graph: Again, I can't draw a graph on here, so see me if you need help!

5 (AGAIN! HAHA SORRY!)
a.) Table is linear and the rule is: y = 4x + 2. It is linear because there is a constant rate of change.

b.) Table is non-linear and the rule is y = -x^2. It is non-linear because there is not a constant rate of change.

6.) a. cubic
b. Linear
c. Quadratic
d. Linear

7.) a. Independent variable is time. Dependent variable is grass height.
b. The grass is growing at a steady rate. Then, the grass gets cut. It begins to grow at a steady rate again, and grows longer than last time, but gets cut again. It begins to grow a third time at a steady rate, but is cut quickly again, before starting to grow at a steady rate.
c. The graph never hits the x-axis because the grass is never at a height of 0.

Tuesday, October 20, 2015

Today in Algebra, we discussed the "All kinds of Graphs" questions and compared linear, quadratic, absolute value, exponential, and cubic functions and graphs. We also reviewed topics for our quiz tomorrow. For homework, you have a review sheet to prepare you for the quiz. *CHECK BACK AFTER 4PM FOR ANSWERS TO REVIEW SHEET!*

Today in Pre-Algebra, we wrote and solve equations related to geometry, perimeter and area. We worked on finding the missing side length after we have solved for x in these geometric shapes. For homework, complete 6.1 Practice B worksheet #7, 9, 10, 12, 13, 14, 15, 17, 18, 20, and 21.(The ones circled on your worksheet!) *REMINDER: QUIZ CORRECTIONS ON DISTRIBUTIVE PROPERTY AND COMBINING LIKE TERMS ARE DUE FRIDAY!*

Update for Monday!

ALGEBRA STUDENTS:

YOUR QUIZ IS CHANGED TO WEDNESDAY INSTEAD OF TOMORROW! STAY AFTER FOR HELP TOMORROW!

Monday October 19th and Updates for the week

Hi All!

In Algebra, we are graphing functions, including linear, quadratic, exponential, absolute value, cubic, using a table. We will then compare these different types of graphs. For homework, complete graphing functions, which is a half sheet of paper. You will need your own graph paper. Students have a quiz tomorrow on linear functions vs. nonlinear functions, and the various ways that they could see a function: words, graph, table and equation.

In Pre-Algebra, we took a quiz on solving equations with distributive property and combining like terms. Students do not have homework tonight, although if they want to do quiz corrections on their distributive property quiz that I handed back last week, they are due on Friday!

I am after school for extra help this week: Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday until 3.

Thursday, October 15

Hi all!

Today in Algebra, we discussed linear functions and the idea that words, graphs, tables and equations can all represent the same linear function.  For homework, complete the worksheet.  Remember that you will need graph paper and that there are 4 graphs!

In Prealgebra today, we practiced solving equations involving fractions, since students were having some difficulty with it yesterday! For homework, complete the  review sheet for your quiz that is on Monday!

Wednesday, October 14, 2015

Wednesday, October 14, 2015

Hi All,

In Algebra today, we worked on determining if relations are or are not functions. We applied the vertical line test to graphs to determine if they represent a function or not. For homework, students complete Page 51 # 37 & 38, and Page 259 #7-9, 11-19.

In Pre-Algebra today, we worked on solving equations that involve fractions. We worked on keeping the fractions inside the equation and working with the fractions, as well as learned how to clear out the fractions from the equations. For homework, students must complete the extra practice on fraction equations.

UPDATE: PRE-ALGEBRA STUDENTS: Your quiz has been changed to Monday of next week, instead of Friday of this week. I think we could use another day of practicing solving equations before our quiz! :)

Review Sheet Answers ALGEBRA

Chapter 3 Review:
1.) Three possible solutions: one solution, no solution, all real numbers. If you get one solution, you will actually be able to solve the equation and get an answer. If you get no solution, the variables will cancel out and what you will be left with is an equation that is an UNTRUE statement. (example: 5 = 2) If you get all real numbers, the variables cancel out, and what you have left is an equation that is a TRUE statement. (example : 5 = 5)

2.) To obtain integer coefficients with fractions, multiply the whole equation by a common denominator. To obtain integer coefficients with decimals, multiply the whole equation by a power of 10 that will eliminate the decimals.

3.) If the problem states: "rewrite the equation so x is a function of y", we solve for x since it says "x is". If it says "rewrite the equation so y is a function of x" we solve for y since it says "y is".

4.) 5/9(F - 32) = C

5.) A/Pt - 1/t = r

6.) x = $19.05

7.) x = 74, x + 2 = 76, x + 4 = 78

8.) a.) y = 15 + 3x b.) 10x - 7 = y

9.)x = -58

10.) t = 4 hours Olivia Sara-- 6 hours

11.) x = 10 2/3

12.) x = 70 mins

13.) x = 182 raffle tickets

Chapter 3 Word Problems Review

1.) x = $141.18

2.) t = 6hrs , t-2 = 4 hours

3.) x = 42.86 days --> 43 days

4.) t = 1/2 hours

Monday, October 5th and Reminders for the Week

Hi All!

Last week was crazy for me, and I didn't get a chance to post a lot. Here's a recap of what happened in my classes for the rest of last week.

Pre-Algebra: We worked on proportions and reviewed for our test on Wednesday and Thursday. We completed a review sheet, and our test on Transformations and Similar Figures was on Friday. I am still in the process of grading those, and will get them back ASAP!

Algebra: We worked on some difficult word problems and being able to pull out important information from word problems to determine what the question is asking us to do. We did various activities to practice this. I handed back quizzes that the students took on Tuesday of last week, and quiz corrections are due this week.

Okay, so now, let's chat about Monday and give you some updates for this week!

Today, in Pre-Algebra, we are beginning our linear equations unit. We are starting with combining like terms. We will be having a quiz on Thursday on combining like terms and distributive property. I will be after school for help this week if necessary. For homework, students will finish the coloring activity from class as well as a practice page on similar figures.

Today, in Algebra, we will be finishing up the word problems, and starting rewriting equations in function form. For homework, students must complete page 177-179 #15-33 odd, and #45. We are scheduled for a test on Friday. I will be after school for help this week, if students need to stay.

I am available for extra help: Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday until 3pm. Please plan to stay if you need help with any material in class, or need help with corrections, or want to study for your quizzes/tests!

Tuesday, September 29, 2015

Tuesday, 9/29/15

Today, in Algebra, we took a quiz on solving equations and word problems. Student did pretty well. The parent portal is updated with their grades, if you would like to see! After the quiz, students worked on solving decimal equations. For homework, students must complete Page 169 #21-39 odd. Remember, you can check the answers in the back of the book, just make sure you show all your work! You can use a calculator, but again if no work is shown, you will not receive credit!

In Pre-Algebra, we discussed similar figures and determined the rules for similarity. We started a sorting activity in class, where students cut out figures, and then place them into categories, either "similar" or "not similar". Also, student must explain their reasoning. For homework, they have to finish their sorting activity from class.

Pre-Algebra has a test on Friday on transformations, including rotations, reflections, translations, and dilations, as well as similar figures. They must know all of the transformation rules (there are 4 that they must know) because the rules will not be given to them on the test. The rules that the students must know are:

Rotations 180 in either direction: (x, y) --> (-x, -y)

Rotation 90 degrees clockwise/270 counter-clockwise: (x, y) --> (y, -x)

Rotation 90 degrees counterclockwise/ 270 clockwise: (x, y) --> (-y, x)

Reflection across y = x: (x, y) --> (y, x)

I suggest that the students make flash cards to help them study, or to use the Quizlet account that Mr. Costa has set up for them. I was after school for review today, but I am also available tomorrow and Thursday until 3pm. I really hope I see students staying after school to get the help that they need. This test is one of the more challenging ones of the year, and I really want the students to do well! Plan on staying! :)

Week Wrap-Up Wednesday through Friday

Hi All!

Sorry things have been crazy, so I haven't updated the last few days.

Wednesday, we did not have classes on the early release day! We had a fun team day! I think everyone had a great time!

Thursday:

In Algebra, we learned how to solve equations with variables on both sides. We played a dice game on the smartboard, that kids had a fun time playing to give us practice! For homework, we completed worksheet 2-4 #1-17, but skip #9.

In Pre-Algebra, we learned how to dilate figures in the coordinate plane. We learned about scale factor and what it does to our figures to stretch or shrink them! For homework, we completed a worksheet about dilations #1-5.

Friday:

Algebra quiz corrections were due today. We learned about equations with variables on both sides that have no solution or all real numbers as a solution. We did an activity in class that got us up and moving today, working with different partners than we are used to! Remember, we have a quiz on Tuesday of next week on solving equations, word problems, and variables on both sides. I will be available on Monday for review!

Pre-Algebra quiz corrections are due on Monday. Today, we figured out the relationship between dilation's perimeters and their scale factor. We will continue with this on Monday. No homework besides quiz corrections due on Monday! Remember, test on transformations is next Friday. I am available Tues, Wed, and Thurs next week for extra help!

Monday, September 21

Good afternoon!

Today in Algebra, we cleared equations of fractions. We learned how to multiply the common denominator by the whole equation to clear out the fractions. We worked on this on Friday, but officially took notes on it today! We also did some word problems, where the students had to write an equation, and then solve for the missing variable. For homework, they had to finish the word problems. We will be discussing them tomorrow, and doing some more word problems (more challenging ones!) Reminder: quiz corrections for Algebra quiz 1 are due on Friday. I am available today, Monday, and tomorrow, Tuesday, if students would like to stay for help on them. I am also available on Thursday, but only by appointment only, meaning students must approach me and let me know they are staying on Thursday because another day does not work for them.

Today in Pre-Algebra, we continued working on rotations. Students completed a check-in to show me what they know about rotations. We organized our interactive notebook, and started chatting about combining transformations. For homework, students must complete combining transformations worksheet. We will start class off with a discussion about their results on their homework. Reminder, quiz corrections are due on Monday. I am available today, Monday, and tomorrow, Tuesday, if students would like to stay for help. I am also available on Thursday, but by appointment only, meaning students must approach me and let me know they are staying on Thursday because another day does not work for them.

Update Wednesday 9/15 and Thursday 9/16

Hi All!

Wednesday in both classes we took a quiz. In Algebra, the quiz was on distributive property, order of operations, and multiplication and addition properties. In Pre-Algebra, the quiz was on translations and reflections. I should have these quizzes back to you by the end of the week!

For homework on Wednesday:

Algebra: Page 148 #16-36 even

Pre-Algebra: "How many different ways..." worksheet

Thursday in Algebra we continued to work on solving multiple step equations. We did some extra practice on some of the challenging ones. For homework, you must complete a worksheet that I hand wrote. There are 6 questions on it. We will go over it in class tomorrow.

Thursday in Pre-Algebra we began working on rotating figures in the coordinate plane. This is usually the transformation that causes the most trouble, but we will work hard to figure it out! Tonight for homework, you will be studying the rules for rotations (there are 4 of them!) HINT HINT--You should study these and know them well for tomorrow :)

You have a review sheet to work on tonight, which has problems very similar to what you will see tomorrow on your quiz. I will answer questions only for the first 5 minutes of class tomorrow, so be prepared with specific questions. I can not do a whole problem out. My expectation is that you may have a quick question, but you should know how to at least start every problem. Reminder: Bring your independent reading book to class tomorrow, since Wednesday is our day to read!

In Algebra today, we began our discussion on multiple step equations. Tomorrow, you guys have a quiz on Distributive Property, Combining like Terms, Order of Operations, and Addition and Multiplication Properties. You have a review sheet to work on for tonight, which has problems very similar to what you will see tomorrow on your quiz. I will post the answer key to your review sheet by 6pm tonight! Reminder: Bring your independent reading book to class tomorrow, since Wednesday is our day to read!

Update 9/11/15 and Upcoming Week Reminders

Hi! We had great classes today! I handed back the "Back to School Quizzes", which are in your Interactive Notebooks.

In Algebra, we practiced Distributive Property and Combining Like Terms. There is no homework over the weekend. Our quiz on Order of Operations, Properties of Addition and Multiplication, and Distributive Property and combining like terms has been changed to Wednesday. I will be available after school on Monday and Tuesday until 3pm, if students would like to stay to review.

In Pre-Algebra, we began working on reflecting across y = x and y = -x. These are challenging, but we did discover the rules for these reflections today. We will be finishing up this topic on Monday. You have a quiz on Wednesday on Reflections over the x and y axis, reflections over horizontal and vertical lines, reflections across y = x and y = -x, and Translations. I will be available on Monday and Tuesday after school for review until 3pm, if students want to stay!

Have an awesome weekend!

Update 9/10/15

Algebra: Today, we finished our discussion of Addition and Multiplication Properties. We also began working on Distributive Property and Combining Like Terms. Although you did learn some of the types of Distributive Property last year, there are some new, more challenging examples that we did in class today! Try your best on your homework tonight. We will go over it in class tomorrow. For homework, complete the worksheet 1-7 problems #2-32 even, 44-52 even, 57-59 all, and 60-72 even. It may seem like a lot of work, but some of the problems do not take very long to complete! :)

Pre-Algebra: Today, we finished our discussion on reflections over the x and y axes. We learned the rules for reflecting over the axes, and practiced using the rules without drawing the reflections! We also learned how to reflect over horizontal and vertical lines. Remember, there are no rules for vertical and horizontal line reflections. You must just count the number of spaces away your shape is from the line of reflection! For homework, try the Reflections over Horizontal and Vertical lines worksheet #1-5. On numbers 4 and 5, you need to draw your own graphs on graph paper, and use the ordered pairs given! Try your best; we will chat about it tomorrow in class!

Update 9/9/15

Hi all!
Algebra: today we finished order of operations, and also discussed the properties of addition and multiplication.  For homework, you must complete pages 122-124 #7-47 odd.  Remember, you can check the Answers in the back of the text book!

Pre-Algebra: today we began reflecting figures in the coordinate plane! We had a great class today, even though we didn't get to a point where we could have homework tonight! This very rarely happens, so take advantage of it! :)

Update 9/8/15

Hi All! I hope you had a relaxing and fun Labor Day weekend.

Today, we set up our interactive notebooks. There were a few students that did not have the 5-subject notebook, and therefore could not set up their notebooks today. I hope they can find time to set up tonight, or very, very soon!

In Pre-Algebra, we also began working on transformations. We started today with just identifying transformations, which for a lot of you was review. For homework tonight, you must finish the transformations worksheet #1-10. We will go over it in class tomorrow, and then we will put it in our Interactive Notebooks under page 1.

In Algebra, we also began working on Order of Operations and the Directly to the Left Rule. This should be review, but some of you had not ever seen the Directly to the Left Rule. For homework, you must finish the Show Me What You Know about Order of Operations. When you come in tomorrow, we will go over them!

Monday, June 1

Ahh! Can you believe it? June 1st already!

In Pre-Algebra, we are working on patterns with repeating decimals, and being able to write repeating decimals as fractions. Today, we learned how to write repeating decimals as fractions using the equation method. We will be having a quiz on Thursday on simplifying radicals and on writing repeating decimals as fractions using both patterns and the equation method. Homework tonight is a worksheet with practice on the equation method.

In Algebra, we are practicing rationalizing the denominator a little bit more, since that seemed to cause some difficulty. The quiz Wednsday is on simplifying radicals and solving radical equations. To help prepare, your homework tonight is worksheet 12.2 Practice B #1-4 all, 12-16 all, and 21-35 odd. Reminder that factoring test corrections are due tomorrow, and the extra credit crossword is due on Wednesday!

Friday, May 29th

Hi All!

In Algebra, we are working on simplifying radicals, rationalizing the denominator using conjugates. This is multistep and challenging for some, but I know you can do it! We will be having a quick quiz on simplifying radicals on Tuesday. Test corrections on the factoring test are due on Tuesday, as well. I gave an extra credit assignment (Factoring Crossword Puzzle) for +10 on the lowest test score for the term, which is due on Wednesday. I am available for extra help on Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday next week, so please stay if you need help!

In Pre-Algebra, we finished our discussion on simplifying radicals, and now we are moving into repeating decimals represented as fractions, including all the patterns found. We will be having a quiz on Friday on both of these topics. I am available for extra help on Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday. If you need help, please plan to stay!

Week of May 11th

Hi All! This week has been busy, but we got a lot accomplished!

In Pre-Algebra, we have been working on the relationship between the volumes of cones, cylinders, and spheres. We did two mini experiments involving play-doh and rice to try to show where the equations come from, and how they are similar. Students seem to really like the activities and could visually see where the equations come from! It was a great week. Homework was given on Monday, which was to complete a worksheet on the volume and surface area of a cylinder. There was no school on Tuesday, so the assignment assigned Monday was due Wednesday. Wednesday, the students began to see the relationship between the volume of sphere and the volume of a cylinder, so for homework they had #1-6 in the packet where the experiments were during class. No homework on Thursday, and no homework over the weekend.

The Pre-Algebra students were given back a test when we got back from April school vacation week. The students may do corrections on the test, but I want them done ASAP! We will be having a test on volume, surface area, and angle relationships on Thursday of next week. I will be available on Wednesday for review.

In Algebra, we finished our discussion on factoring. We learned the last special case on Wednesday, but have been reviewing for a majority of the week. The students took a test today on factoring. The students also got their tests back from Chapter 9 test, and corrections are due on Monday. I was available this week Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday, and I will be available next Monday to help with corrections if necessary. No homework over the weekend.

Friday, May 8, 2015

Friday, May 8th

We took our last session of Science MCAS today. Our classes were shortened. Here is what we did during class, and some updates for next week!

In Algebra, we are continuing to work on factoring. I did post some new video tutorials and a website to help you, if you need it! We learned the two special cases today, and also learned a new way to do the "guess and check" method (since I know how much you love that method! HA) There will not be homework over the weekend.
*UPDATE FOR NEXT WEEK: TEST ON FACTORING WILL BE FRIDAY! I WILL BE HERE FOR REVIEW ON MONDAY, WEDNESDAY, AND THURSDAY UNTIL 3:00! Please let me know if you are staying! Test corrections for the Chapter 9 test (taken April 8), are due on Friday as well. Plan on staying if you need help!

In Pre-Algebra, we are continuing to look at the formulas for volume and surface area. Our goal is to determine where these equations come from, so that they do not seem so hard to work with! There is no homework over the weekend.
*UPDATE: I AM AVAILABLE MONDAY AND WEDNESDAY FOR EXTRA HELP NEXT WEEK! I have some students who need to do test corrections on their exponents and scientific notation test. Plan on staying after school to work on them if you need help! Our test on Angle Relationships & Volume and Surface Area will be on May 21st. Please plan accordingly!

Have an awesome weekend :)

PARCC/MCAS Week! May 4-8

Hi all,

As you know, we have been PARCC testing for math this week. We tested Monday and Wednesday. We also had the Museum of Science come in and do an awesome presentation on heating and temperature. Some parents came in to chat with students about their science/math/engineering jobs. My father, Mr. Tony Eringis, came in to talk to the kids about his job. The student enjoyed the presentations! Today and tomorrow we are Science MCAS testing. The students have shortened classes.

Because I was proctoring the PARCC math test on Monday and Wednesday, the students did not have math class at all. There was no homework or classwork that needed to be completed for math class for those days. Also, the presentations on Tuesday means that we also did not have math class on that day, and therefore no classwork or homework necessary.

Today, in Pre-Algebra class, we are going to learn about volume and surface area of cylinders. We will work with the equations and determine where the equations come from. There will not be homework tonight, since there is Science MCAS tomorrow.

Today, in Algebra class, we are going to practice all of the different types of factoring that we have been working on. There will not be homework tonight, since there is Science MCAS tomorrow.

Monday, March 9, 2015

Update: 3/9/15

Pre-Algebra: Today, we practiced taking the PARCC standardized test on the computer. You do not have homework tonight. We will be learning about square roots and Pythagorean Theorem this week!

Algebra: Today, we practiced the 7 exponent rules we have learned in this chapter. We will be working on Scientific Notation tomorrow, and we have a test on Thursday on Chapter 8.

*I am available for extra help on Wednesday and Thursday this week!

2/11/15

Hi!

We did not have our regular class today. We were in the computer lab today, and we did tutorials to prepare us for the Massachusetts PARCC exam taking place in March. Even though we did not have regular class, students still have homework, and their quiz is still scheduled for Friday.

Pre-Algebra: RED, YELLOW, or GREEN worksheet on Linear Combinations (Elimination) Method

Algebra: Page 417 # 1-10

Week of 2/10/14

Hi All!

There have been so many snow days, so my blog has fallen behind a little. Let's chat about this week!

In both Pre-Algebra and Algebra, we are solving systems of equations using 3 methods: Graphing, Substitution, and Elimination (linear combinations).

Remember, in order to graph, both equations must be in slope-intercept form (y = mx + b). The solution to the system on your graph will be where the 2 lines intersect.

I posted videos in the "Resources section" to help with the Substitution and Elimination method.

Both classes have a quiz on Friday on the three ways to solve linear systems. I will be after school Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday for extra help, and would encourage students to stay!

Tuesday, January 13, 2015

1/13/15

Hi All! Hope you are having a fabulous week so far. Here is an update about what is going on in math classes this week.

Pre-Algebra: This week, we have been working on writing equations in slope intercept form when given the slope and a point, or two points. We did word problems in class today, and we will do more with them tomorrow. Towards the end of the week, we will be starting scatterplots and best fit lines. For homework tonight, please complete the writing equations review worksheet, with the word problem on the back side, too! REMINDER: QUIZ & TEST CORRECTIONS ARE DUE ON FRIDAY! I am after school Wednesday and Thursday for extra help!

Algebra 1: This week, we started Chapter 6, which is on inequalities. We began solving one, two, and multi-step inequalities and learned how to graph them on a number line. We will take a quiz on Friday on sections 6.1-6.3. The rest of this week, we will be working on compound inequalities. For homework tonight, complete page 343-344 #15-35 odd (PLEASE DO GRAPHS TOO!), and 46-48 all.

Tuesday, January 6, 2015

1/6/15

Hi All! I hope you had a wonderful winter break and came back rested and ready to work hard!

In math class today, we worked on writing equations from word problems. For homework, complete the front side of the review sheet for your quiz on Thursday. The quiz on Thursday will be on writing equations from tables, graphs, and word problems. It will be a short quiz, just to make sure you know what you are doing! I will be after school Tuesday to review. Hope to see you there!

In Algebra 1 class today, we learned how to write equations in Standard form. We worked on starting in slope-intercept form or point-slope form and moving the terms in our equations to get them into standard form. Remember that the equations in standard form can't have fractions or decimals in them and they must have a positive coefficient for the x term. For homework, please complete Page 311 #28-32 even, 40-44 even, 48-50 all, and 56-60 even. Reminder that the test on Chapter 5 is on Friday. I am available for review Tuesday after school or Thursday after school, until 3pm. Hope to see you there!
