11/19/14

Hi All!

In Math class today, we discussed horizontal and vertical lines. We talked about what they look like in tables, graphs, and equations. We completed a Red, Yellow, Green assignment to help us get ready for our quiz tomorrow. For homework, you have a review sheet to help prepare you as well.

In Algebra class today, we finished our discussion on direct variation/proportional relationships. For homework, page 238 #23-31, 33.

Algebra Topics and potential practice problems

Topics:

*When should you use a table of values vs. finding the intercepts to graph?

*Use the slope formula to find the slope between two points.

*Slope word problems (two ordered pairs in the word problem)

* Finding the x and y intercepts and then explain what they mean in the context of a word problem

*Finding the missing y-coordinate in a point when given another point and the slope.

*Creating a table of values to graph an equation from a word problem.

*What do solutions to word problems actually represent?

*Function Form

Problems:

Page 231 #43-46 *DEFINITELY DO 45 and 46. These are on finding the missing coordinate when given the slope and two points with one missing coordinate.

Page 230 # 29- 34 These are on using the slope formula to find the slope between two points.

Page 222 # 64-66 These are a word problem using intercepts.

Page 222 # 42-50 even These are practice finding the x and y intercepts.

Page 215 #44-51 These are practice creating table of values. Make sure your equation is in function form first!!

11/14/14

Hi All,

In math class today, we discussed how to recognize solutions in equations, graphs, and tables. We did a "bingo" activity, and some students won homework passes! You do not have homework. Have an awesome weekend!

In Algebra 1 class today, we finished our discussion on slope. We worked on finding the missing y-coordinate when given two ordered pairs and the slope. You have a quiz on Monday on sections 4.1-4.4. I will be posting problems from the book that you can do if you are looking for some extra practice. You do not need to do all of these, but they will help you prepare for your quiz. I will be collecting them on Monday before the quiz. I will post the answers to them on Sunday night. Have a good weekend!

11/13/14

In math class today, we finished our discussion on domain, range and functions.  For homework, you must complete page 585 #1-5.  See picture below.

In algebra, for homework complete page 230#20-28

11/10

Hi all!
In math class today, you took a pre-test to see what you already know about the upcoming unit.  You do not have any homework for tonight! Have a great day off tomorrow!

In algebra 1 class today, we continued to work on using x and y intercepts to graph equations.  We did a scavenger hunt around the room for practice.  For homework, complete page 222 #41-55 odd, and 60-63.  Enjoy your day off tomorrow!

11/3/14-11/7/14

Hi All!

I have been so busy, I have not even updated this week!

Here is a weekly update for Math class this week!
On Monday, we wrote equations from word problems that had variables on both sides. For homework, you completed a worksheet that had 4 word problems on it. I also handed you a review packet for our test that is tomorrow, Friday, November 7th.

On Tuesday, we did not have school! I hope you all enjoyed the day off.

On Wednesday, I collected your word problems that you did for homework. We worked on a fun review activity, where you drew and colored a face on a blank template based on the answers to your problems! For homework, you needed to finish the face activity and also continue to work on your review sheet for the test that is Friday.

Today, Thursday, I collected the face drawing that you did. We will be having a contest to see which face was the most creative and best drawn! You may be able to win a free homework pass! :) During class, we played a review game to help prepare you for the test. Each math class received +3 bonus points on their tests! Nice work! For homework, you must finish the review sheet that was handed out on Monday during class.

Tomorrow, Friday, you will be taking a test on writing and solving equations. I will collect the review sheet that you have been working on at home for homework since Monday. There will be no homework over the weekend! Enjoy!

Here is a weekly update for Algebra 1 class this week:
On Monday, we continued our discussion on similar figures. We worked on some more challenging examples and applications of similar figures. For homework, you began the front side of a graphing worksheet, and you had to finish the similar figures packet that we were working on in class. Last Thursday, I gave you an extra credit cross-word puzzle activity that would give you up to 10 extra points on your low quiz/test scores. That cross-word puzzle was due on Wednesday.

On Tuesday, we did not have school! I hope you all enjoyed the day off.

On Wednesday, we began Chapter 4. We worked on writing equations in function form, and then using a table of values to graph the equation. I collected the extra credit, and I passed back your tests from last week. In order to help improve some of the grades, I am allowing you to fix your open response on the test if you did not receive a 4/4. The re-do of the open response is due Friday.

On Thursday, we continued our work on function form, tables, graphs, and also worked on writing equations of horizontal and vertical lines. We did a grouping activity in class that allowed you to be paired with different students! For homework, you must complete page 215 #30-35 and 44-46. On #30-35, you must also choose 2 of the equations to graph. On 44-46, you must graph all of the equations!

On Friday, we will be graphing equations by finding the x and y intercepts. We will be doing a scavenger hunt activity around the classroom. There will be no homework over the weekend. Enjoy!
