We have a lot to wrap up before we leave for vacation week! Here is the classwork and homework for Monday and Tuesday! I will post again at the end of the week for the rest! :)
Period 3
Monday: We took a mini-quiz on slope and then started working on writing equations from a table and graph.
Homework: Finish tables and graphs packet from class.
Tuesday: We started word problems and writing equations from them. We are working on "slashing the trash and jailing the details", where students cross out information that is not needed, and circle/highlight important information from the word problems. I modeled an example for them, and they worked on 3 others in class.
Homework: Choose 4 out of the 6 word problems. When doing this, students must remember to:
--slash the trash and jail the detail
--create a given information section, where you label what the slope, y-intercept, and variables represent in the problem.
--Set up mini-problems to determine the equation
Period 4 & 6:
Monday: We started Chapter 7 with a fun activity. We turned our classroom into a coordinate plane, where each student represented a different ordered pair. We were graphing linear systems, where the solution is the place where the lines intersect! The students had a blast determining who was going to be the "solution" to the linear systems. I also gave them notes on section 7.1 with actual examples of necessary information and vocabulary.
Homework: Page 401 & 402 #12-30 even
Tuesday: We started with a warm up that was a word problem on graphing linear systems. These students have also been working on "slashing the trash and jailing the details". Then, we worked in groups matching graphs to linear systems.
Homework: Page 402-403 #36, 40. I am expecting the students to rewrite the word problem and use the "slash the trash and jail the details" strategy to help solve the word problems.
Period 5:
Monday: We are working on determining the missing side lengths in similar figures.
Homework: worksheet #7-16
Tuesday: We started word problems with similar figures. We worked on just setting up our proportions, not actually solving them yet! Remember: find a relationship between what you are comparing in order to set up your proportions.
Homework: Setting up proportions from the rest of the word problems started in class. *DO NOT SOLVE THEM YET!*
