Week of November 30, 2015

Good afternoon,

In Algebra this week, we are finishing up chapter 4. Today in class we worked on solving equations graphically. Test is Wednesday. Homework for Monday: Page 253-254 #26-31 and work on your review sheet for your test for 15 minutes.

Tuesday we will be reviewing in class for your test that is on Wednesday. Topics: graphing using a table of values, graphing using intercepts, graphing using slope intercept form, slope in an equation, graph, table, and using the slope formula, direct variation, and solving graphically.

I will be holding a review session on Tuesday after school UNTIL 3 PM for students who would like to stay to get help!

Wednesday--Test!

Thursday, we will begin chapter 5!

In Pre-Algebra this week, we are working on graphing equations that are both in function form and not in function form, as well as graphing horizontal and vertical lines. We will be having a quiz on Friday!

Today in class, we worked on recognizing solutions in tables, graphs, and equations. Homework for Monday: None, unless you did not finish the follow-up from class.

Tuesday, we will be graphing equations using a table of values. Some of the equations will be in function form, some we will have to change to function form first, before graphing! Homework Tuesday: 3 practice problems

Wednesday is a practice day on graphing equations using a table of values, as well as horizontal and vertical lines, if possible.

Thursday is more practice graphing and horizontal and vertical lines.

Friday--QUIZ! Topics: Functions and Relations, recognizing solutions, graphing using a table of values, and graphing horizontal and vertical lines.

I will be holding a review session on Thursday after school UNTIL 3 PM for students who would like to stay to get help!

Monday, November16

Hi All!
In Math class today, we continued our work with interpreting graphs given real life situations. For homework, you are working in "Thinking with Math Models" book (or packet, since we ran out of books) and are finishing up the 4.1 follow up on pages 48-49.

In Algebra class today, we continued discussing slope and looked all of the different ways you may have to find the slope. We did problems around the room to practice. For homework, you will complete both sides of the slope practice page, which is a little bit of everything.

1.) m = -13
2.) x = 2
3.) x = 3/5
4.) x = -7
5.) infinite solutions
6.) no solution
7.) 3.5 hours of labor
NO IDEA WHERE 8 AND 9 ARE!?! SORRY!
10.) x = -9/8
11.) x = 260.2
12.) m = 12.5, so you would need to buy 13 magazines
13.) x = 3 , y = 12, short side = 9, long side = 28, perimeter: 74
14.) x = 40 inches, height = 42 inches
15.) Jenn = 54, daughter = 28
16.) 19 cm = length, 41 cm = width

ALGEBRA REVIEW ANSWERS:
SLOPE:
1.) m = 2, increasing
2.) m = undefined, vertical
3.) m = 2/7, increasing
4.) m = 0, horizontal
5.) m = 64/-9, decreasing
6.)m = 45/4, increasing
7.) m = -13/3, decreasing
8.) m = 1/2, increasing

GRAPHING USING INTERCEPTS:
1.) (0, 4) and (-2, 0) Then Graph
2.) (0, -3( and (6, 0) Then Graph
3.) a.) 6x + 3y = 30
b.) GRAPH! (5, 0) and (0,10)
c.) *YOU ONLY NEED THREE OF THESE*: (1, 8) (2, 6) (3, 4) (4, 2) (5, 0)
d.) x intercept is (5, 0) which represents the number of movies Emily can rent if she rents 0 video games.
e.) y intercept is (0, 10), which represents the number of video games Emily can rent if she rents 0 movies.

GRAPHING FUNCTION FORM:
1.) y = -3 should be a horizontal line at -3.
2.) function form: y - -1/4x + 4 then graph
3.) x = 2 should be a vertical line at 2.
4.) function form: 4 - x = y then graph.

Updates/Reminders for Week of November 9, 2015

Hi All! Here is an update for both of my classes for this week:

In Algebra, we started working on slope on Friday. We will be having a quiz on Tuesday. Topics on the quiz: putting an equation into function form and then graphing using a table of values, graphing an equation using intercepts, slope between 2 points, and slopes and descriptions of horizontal and vertical lines. We will be reviewing in class tomorrow, Monday, and you will be able to ask me questions on anything necessary before Tuesday's quiz.

Homework Monday Night for Algebra: Finish the 3 review classwork assignments started in class. Answers will be posted on the blog on Monday, around 4 pm. *I WILL REMEMBER THIS TIME :)*

After the quiz on Tuesday if there's time, but if not on Thursday, we will be working on finding the missing coordinate when given the slope. You may not know what that means just yet, but after Thursday you will! We will then be starting to chat about slope-intercept form, y = mx + b, which most of you already know a little bit about!

In Pre-Algebra, we are about to finish our writing equations unit. Our test is scheduled for Tuesday. Tomorrow, Monday, in class, we will be reviewing, and I will be holding a review session with Mr. Costa until 3pm tomorrow if you would like to stay.

Homework Monday Night for Pre-Algebra: Finish the review sheet. The answers will be posted on the blog on Monday around 4pm. Make sure you show all necessary work, or you will not receive credit for doing the review sheet!

After the test on Tuesday, we will not have any time to discuss our next unit. On Thursday, we will be taking a Pre-Test on the unit we will be starting next. Although this pre-test counts as a classwork grade, and graded based on effort, I hope that you all take it seriously and try your hardest to answer the questions. You may not know any answers, or you may be able to answer a few of them already based on your prior knowledge/educational guesses! Let's see how you do!

On Friday, we will be starting the unit with interpreting distance time graphs and relating these graphs to verbal descriptions.

Hope everyone is having a restful Sunday. Go Pats! :)

Tuesday, November 3rd

In Pre-Algebra, we are working on solving equations with variables on both sides. For homework, students complete variables on both sides worksheet. Remember, only choose 1 column for #1. SKIP LETTER F, because the answer is no solution, and you have not learned how to do that yet! Sorry!!

In Algebra, we are working on graphing equations using a table of values. We also began to discuss horizontal and vertical lines today in class. For homework, complete Page 215 #44-55 all. Reminder: Project due tomorrow!
