Week of January 28th--Classwork and Homework
Hi All,
On Monday, the students take the practice math MCAS. Results will be sent home sometime before February vacation week! Here is the classwork and homework for the week!
PERIOD 3:
Monday: Practice MCAS. We started a review sheet in class, and it must be finished for homework. Quiz Tuesday on Similar Figures.
Tuesday: Quiz Day!
Homework: Finish "How are They Related?" assignment started in class after quiz, which is beginning our discussion on linear equations, tables, and graphs!
Wednesday: We went over the homework from last night to ensure understanding. We started notes on Independent and Dependent Variables, as well as Unit Rate.
Homework: How are They Related? Part 2 worksheet
Thursday: I collected their homework from Wednesday. We finished our notes on Independent and Dependent Variables and Unit Rate. We began an activity where students were graphing, writing equations, and interpreting tables.
Homework: Part 2--Unit Rates, Equations, and Graphs
Friday: We will begin our discussion on slope, starting with slope triangles. The students will be exploring slope triangles, and whether or not slope triangles are similar! We will finish class with a discussion of slope on a graph.
Homework: NONE!
PERIODS 4 & 6:
Monday: Practice MCAS. We started a review sheet in class, and it must be finished for homework. Quiz Tuesday on 6.1-6.3, Solving and graphing inequalities.
Tuesday: Quiz Day! No Homework!
Wednesday: We started section 6.4, which is Solving and Graphing Absolute Value Inequalities and Equations. We took notes, and developed rules for when the inequalities are "and" statements, and when they are "or" statements. We set up 2 cases for every inequality and equation: a positive case, and a negative case, remembering to switch the inequality symbol for the negative case!
Homework: Page 356-357 #28-54 EVEN
Thursday: We continued our work in 6.4. We practiced some tougher problems today, using small white boards and holding up our answers as quickly as we could!
Homework: 6.4 Practice C #1-25 ODD
Friday: We will be doing a RED, YELLOW, GREEN assignment on section 6.4. If your child takes a RED assignment, it means he/she is having some difficulty with this section. The problems on the RED sheet are designed to be basic and help the student understand the concept better. If your child takes a YELLOW assignment, it means he/she is doing OKAY with the section. The problems on the YELLOW sheet are designed to be practice for the concept. If your child takes a GREEN assignment, it means he/she is doing GREAT with the section. The problems on the GREEN sheet are designed to challenge your child on the concept learned.
Homework: NONE!
PERIOD 5:
Monday: Practice MCAS. During class time, students were able to complete quiz corrections on quiz taken last week on Symmetry. NO HOMEWORK!
Tuesday: We started investigating rotations in the coordinate plane. We developed rules for 8 different rotations in the plane.
Homework: Rotations Practice Worksheet #1-2
Wednesday: We continued investigating rotations in the coordinate plane. We practiced using the rules that we developed in class on Tuesday.
Homework: Create an Index Card with rules and any important things that you need to remember about the three transformations we have been working on: rotations, reflections, and translations. QUIZ TUESDAY OF NEXT WEEK! The index card created is allowed to be used on the quiz on Tuesday!
Thursday: We practiced rotating figures in the coordinate plane.
Homework: Choose 2 more rotation problems from the practice page in class
Friday: We will begin reviewing for our quiz that is Tuesday. We will start by reviewing reflections in the coordinate plane.

Week of January 7
Hi All,
I have had a terrible cold, and I was out sick on Monday and Tuesday. Although I am feeling better, we need to get caught up!!
In my Period 3 class, we are working on translations and rotations in the coordinate plane. Students seem to really understand translations, and yesterday, we played a tic-tac-toe game with problems to work on these translations. Today and tomorrow, we will be working on rotations in the coordinate plane. We will start review of the three different transformations in the coordinate plane next week, and we will have a quiz on Wednesday.
In Periods 4 & 6, we are finishing up our discussion with Point-Slope form and real-life applications related to it. While I was absent, students started working on Standard Form of linear equations. We will be finishing up our discussion, and beginning to review for our test on Chapter 5, which will be Wednesday.
In Period 5, we are working on the three types of symmetry: Rotations, Reflections, and Translations. We started talking about translations yesterday, and we will be finishing up today! We will be reviewing for our quiz on Tuesday.

New Parent Resources Section
Hi Parents!
I have created a Parent Resources section of my blog! These websites I have found to be helpful on the topics we are working on in class! I hope these will help you to help your child! You will have to ask your child which class they are in, Algebra, or Pre-Algebra. I have labeled the resources that are for Algebra accordingly. All of the other resources are for Pre-Algebra. E-mail me with any questions!

Homework and Classwork--Week of January 2nd
Hi All! I hope that everyone had a relaxing break! :) Here is the Classwork and Homework for the short week!
Wednesday, January 2nd:
Period 3: We started working on reflections and symmetry in the x-y coordinate plane. We did an activity that became our notes to determine the rules for reflecting points along the x and y axis.
Homework: Reflections and Symmetry worksheet (on the back of your classwork)
Period 4 & 6: We reviewed Section 5.3, and in particular word problems related to section 5.3!
Homework: 5.3 Practice B #2-18 even, 19-22 all
Period 5: We started a new unit on Symmetry and Transformations. We are using a new mini-textbook called "Kaleidoscopes, Hubcaps, and Mirrors" that we will be using for the next few weeks. Today, we did problem 1.1, Reflectional Symmetry.
Homework: 1.1 Follow-Up
Thursday, January 3rd:
Period 3: Today, we started to combine transformations. Instead of reflecting one time, we now will be reflecting multiple times to determine a single transformation to get from the original figure to the newest image.
Homework: Problem 3.1 Follow-Up (Page 44) #1-3
Period 4 & 6: Today, we worked on 5.4 Best Fitting Lines. We took our own guided notes for the section, and we will be comparing our answers for our lines tomorrow in class!
Homework: Finish notes and Page 296 #10-22 even
Period 5: Today, we finished our discussion on reflectional symmetry, and began working on Rotational Symmetry (1.2). Rotational Symmetry will take us a few days to master! We started today with Hubcaps, and using our steps, we came up with the Angle of Rotation.
Homework: 1.2 Follow-Up #1 and 3
You may receive +5 on our next quiz if you color in your design of your Hubcap in the follow-up!
Friday, January 5th:
Period 3: Today, we are working on Rotational Symmetry in the x-y plane. This topic will take a few days to master!
NO HOMEWORK!!
Period 4 & 6: We will start working on Standard Form (Section 5.5)
NO HOMEWORK!!
Period 5: We will continue discussing Rotational Symmetry. We will finish working on Hubcaps, and then start working on Kaleidoscopes and the symmetry inside them.
