Monday 9/28/14 Pre-Algebra
Hi!
In Math class today, I gave you some time to work on your Transformation Vacation Projects. We continued our discussion on similar figures and did some practice related to that, including some more challenging examples. We independent read at the end of class today!
REMINDERS: Test Thursday on Transformation Unit. You will be receiving a review sheet tomorrow, and we will also be reviewing in class on Wednesday. Projects are due on Friday!
I am available for extra help on Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday of this week if you would like to stay for review, or to work on your project!

Hi All!
On Wednesday in math class, we began our discussion on using scale factor to find missing sides in a dilation. We also worked on it again today, Thursday. We have not had homework due to the Jewish holiday.
On Wednesday in Algebra, we began discussing the Distributive Property. Although students had some difficulty, we cleared it up today, Thursday. We have not had homework due to the Jewish holiday.

Hi! On Monday in Math class, we started working on dilations in the coordinate plane. We discussed how to find scale factor. For homework, you must complete a worksheet with practice on dilations in the coordinate plane.
On Tuesday in Math class, we continued our discussion on dilations, with an emphasis on finding the scale factor again and also the relationship between scale factor and area of the figures. For homework, you must complete Page 451-452 #11, 13, 15, 18, 19, 20, 25. Numbers 19 and 20 the graphs are optional.
On Monday in Algebra, we finished our discussion on matrices, and did another real life example. You had a review sheet to complete for homework on 2.1-2.4.
On Tuesday in Algebra, we took a quiz on 2.1-2.4. We went over how to do quiz corrections in my class, and began discussing distributive property with area models. For homework, you must complete the front side of the area/distributive property paper worked on after the quiz today.

Today in Math class, we worked on writing the requirements necessary for performing various transformations not in the coordinate plane. Students have a quiz tomorrow on rotations, reflections and translations both in the coordinate plane, and not in the coordinate plane. For homework, students must complete the review sheet that will be collected tomorrow. They will need graph paper, a pencil, a ruler, and their rules for rotating figures in the coordinate plane.
Today in Algebra 1, we worked on section 2.3, Subtraction of Real Numbers. We discussed the subtraction rule, and worked on function tables. For homework, you are finishing the function tables activity in class. You will be having a quiz on Tuesday on sections 2.1-2.4.

Hi All!
On Monday in Math class, we worked on rotating figures in the coordinate plane. We needed more practice, but most students have a better understanding of it now! For homework, you completed a worksheet that involved multiple transformations happening in the same coordinate plane.
On Monday in Algebra 1 class, we worked on Section 2.1, which involves absolute value, velocity, speed, and counterexamples. For homework, you completed two worksheets. One was related to counterexamples, and the other was a challenge activity using inequalities with absolute value.
On Tuesday in Math class, we rotated figures that were not in the coordinate plane. It is a challenging activity, but students worked hard! We watched the video that is on my blog in the Resources section on how to rotate figures not in the coordinate plane. For homework, you will complete the sheet entitled "Combining Transformations". *On 2b, the line x = -3 is the vertical line at -3 on the x-axis.* Reminder, quiz Friday on rotations, reflections and translations. You will need to know the rules for all transformations in the coordinate plane.
On Tuesday in Algebra 1 class, we discussed the properties of addition and multiplication. We began a matching activity in class that must be completed for homework (Both Sides!). *REMINDER: Your design your own word problem (VERBAL MODEL) is due tomorrow during period 1. Please attach your rubric to your word problem and make sure your name is on both! Quiz on sections 2.1-2.4 will be on Tuesday of next week!

Week of 9/8/14
Hi All, I apologize for not posting this week. I have not been feeling well! I am back!
In 8th grade math, we have been working on translations. On Monday and Tuesday, we did translations in the coordinate plane. We took a quiz today on Reflections and Translations, and they look pretty good! Monday night's homework was to complete a translation worksheet (#1-9). On Tuesday, for homework, we completed a review sheet for the quiz.
Today, after the quiz, we worked on translating figures that are not in the coordinate plane. For homework, you must complete your notes (3 examples to try on your own!) if you did not finish in class.
In Algebra class, we have been working on writing expressions, equations, and inequalities from verbal statements. We also have worked on writing verbal models from word problems. We will be having a test on Chapter 1 on Friday!
For homework, on Monday, you had Page 35-36 23-30, 39-48. On Tuesday, you finished #3 from your notes on verbal models and started brainstorming for designing your own word problems at the end of this chapter.
Tonight for homework, you have Page 37 #49-53, and Page 49 # 10-15, 20-24. Test on Chapter 1 on Friday :)

In Math class today, we continued to work on reflections in the coordinate plane. We did an activity to determine the general rules for reflecting over the x and y axes. For homework, complete Page 435-436 # 6-8, 10, 19, 20.
*USE A RULER! YOU NEED GRAPH PAPER!
In Algebra 1 today, we discussed equations and inequalities. We also discussed how to pull out important information from word problems. For homework, complete Page #27-28 #20-25, 47-55, 65, 68. You do not have a quiz on Tuesday. Instead, you will be taking a test on Chapter 1 by the end of next week.
Reminder: You must all have your math books covered for tomorrow! Bring your book to class! :)

In Math class today, we finished our discussion on triangle congruency. We watched the video that is in the Parent Resources section on my blog. We then started our unit on transformations. We started with reflections and did them in the coordinate plane today. For homework, complete a reflection practice worksheet.
*REMINDER: USE A RULER AND THERE ARE TWO PROBLEMS ON THE BACK SIDE! NO RULER = NO CREDIT! :)
In Algebra 1, we discussed Order of Operations. You completed a Show Me What You Know about Order of Operations with partners. For homework, complete page 19-20 # 4-12, 33-42.
